::EL CALLAO::

El Callao is the most important port in terms of history and commercial activity in Peru. After Lima, it is the most industrialized city in the country. Its most relevant activities  are related to its port terminal where more than 2,000 vessels and nearly 10 million tons of cargo are received every year.

This chalaca province, comprised of six modern districts, is home of Jorge Chavez  International Airport, the busiest airport of the country. It also houses the Real Felipe Fortress, built in the shape of a pentagon in the 18th century to repel the attacks of pirates and corsairs, and which subsequently played an important role in the fighting for the Independence of Peru.

Other tourist attractions are the Navy Museum, the Matriz Church, Callao's Lighthouse, and the Abtao Submarine Navy Site Museum, considered the first of its kind in South America; located opposite Grau Square, it can be visited by the public on guided tours.

El Callao ends in La Punta, a large peninsula that goes into the Pacific and is the scenario of a number of pebble beaches, the old seafront and a residential area of the 40s and 50s. Other places such as Chucuito, are still fishermen neighborhoods as in the Viceroyalty times. In recreational centers, clubs and restaurants, visitors can taste delicious chalaco dishes based on fish and seafood, thanks to its vast and rich sea.
